PERRYWOOD EAGLES  3 v 1 Three Bridges

Apr 26th 2009 - Friendly

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Joe, Max, Jack, Matt, Jake, Owen, Josh, Sam, Dan.DK, George, Michael, Dan.CS, James

Goal Scorers: Max, Michael, Dan.CS

It was a nice glorious sunny day today when we played our third 11-side friendly, this time against ThreeBridges.

The boys we a little slow starting and for the first half ThreeBridges applied lots of pressure and kept us in our half for most of it, we had the occasional counter attack but nothing to worry the ThreeBridges keeper. ThreeBridges had a few chances but none really on target till we gave away a free kick just outside the area, the free kick was placed low and towards the corner of the goal, it looked like Jake had it for a moment but it managed to sneak in 1-0 ThreeBridges. The way the next few minutes went it looked like they might extent their lead but our counter led to a corner which we equalised from.

The second half looked a bit more brighter for Perrywood and we started to get back into the game and play a bit of football, a good break from Dan.CS and a calm finish made it 2-1 to us and now we were having a bit of pressure of out own. A couple of corners and we came close again, both with the initial cross and also with the follow up. The Eagles made it 3-1 when we did manage to score from a corner - it took about 4 or 5 attempts before Michael smashed the ball into the net.

A few more efforts just missed or were saved before the final whistle and ThreeBridges continued to counter and had a few shots on target but the final score remained 3-1 Perrywood.  ThreeBridges are a very good side and at times we were under the cosh a bit but we remained solid and got a good result in the end, so well done to all the boys.

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  3 v 1 Maidenbower Navy Blues

Apr 19th 2009 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Max, Jack, Matt, Joe

Goal Scorers: Ben, Matt, Jack.D

This was the last league game of the season and, with Oakwood having claimed the top spot in the red league, MNB and the Eagles were head to head in a second and third place decider.  MNB were a point ahead so the Eagles needed a win to claim the runners-up position.

The game couldn't have started off better with the Eagles kicking off and getting an early throw in deep in the MNB half from the first attack.....a long throw from Max.....a glancing header from James..... and the ball fell to Benjamin, who put it past the keeper to make it 1-0 with barely a minute gone.

The Eagles continued on the attack after that with any four combination of Jack, James, Max, Matt and Benjamin all pushing up to threaten the MNB defence and goal.  MNB were however also keeping up the pressure and it was only some superb defending by Joe and Adam and some confident saves from Jack F that ensured the MNB attacks were not successful. There were chances at both ends but the score remained 1-0 at half time.

Into the second half and MNB continued the challenge but with the Eagles defence holding firm, it was the Eagles that struck again with a cross from Max setting up Matt who, unmarked in the box, comfortably slotted the second home. This was followed shortly afterwards with a well struck Jack D shot claiming a third.

Although MNB subsequently pulled a goal back just before the end from a well taken free kick outside the Eagles penalty area that gave Jack F no chance, it was a consolation goal and the day and the runners up position in the red league belonged to the Eagles with a final score of 3-1.

A great game by the boys who all put in a huge amount of effort and played really well. Its been a terrific season for the team...and still the cup final to play !

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  6 v 0 MSB Gold

Mar 29th 2009 - League

Squad: Jake, Josh, Michael, Owen, Sam,  George, Dan.CS, Leo, James,

Goal Scorers: Sam, Leo (2), Owen (2), George

For the final league game of the season the golden eagles started very slowly , the first half was a total non event apart from a cracking run   and shot by Micheal which hit the bar.

However the second half was totally different , Sam opened the scoring straight from the kick off and from then on it was all one way traffic , leo scored 2 more goals , owen x2 – although the 2nd could go down as an own goal with George scoring the other.

The guest coach of the day made continued changes throughout giving Jake a little run out second half with Josh volunteering to go in goal.  Finally a special mentioned to terry who had an excellent debut refereeing, the start of things to come.!!!!!

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  1 v 0 Oakwood (3-2 pens)

March 22nd 2009 - Cup

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Max, Jack, Matt, Joe

Goal Scorers: Ben

The Eagles were taking a goal disadvantage into the Knockout cup semi-final 2nd leg against Oakwood and needed to be on top form to gain a win and progress to the final. From the off it was a close game but it was the Eagles that struck first within 5 minutes of the kick off with a well struck volley from Benjamin putting them into the lead and levelling the aggregate score at 2-2. After that it was end to end stuff with neither side able to get the edge over the other. With no further goals, in either the first or second halves, a further 10 minutes of extra time was necessary but the deadlock remained throughout leaving both sides facing the lottery of the penalty shoot out.

There was lots of tension and nerves (particularly in the crowd) as the boys stepped up to the mark. With some well taken shots and some great saves from Jack F, the boys eventually took the shoot out 3-2. It has been a great couple of well fought games, a credit to to both sides....but it's the Eagles that have earned both a place in the Knockout final against MSB Diamonds and managed to produce the biggest smile we've seen from the coach all season !

Just to add to that - well played today boys, it was a great game with oakwood and could have been worthy of the final and could have gone either way with the penalties.

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  2 v 0 MSB Terriers

March 22nd 2009 - Cup

Squad: Jake, Josh, Michael, Sam, Dan CS, Dan.DK, Leo, James

Goal Scorers: Leo, Michael

Onto the second leg of the cup semi finals, and it was another glorious day. We were missing owen and george today so had to shuffle the boys around a bit. The game started brightly and the ball pinged back and forwards between the two teams for the first 5 minutes or so, then Dan.CS passed inside to Josh who crossed into the box for Leo who turned and volleyed the ball into the net 1-0 Perrywood.

MSB continued to push and Sam and James had to be solid at the back, there was one good long range effort which hit our bar (although I am sure Jake had it covered :) ) . In the second half Michael broke down the right and smashed in a great shot to make it 2-0 (4-0 overall) which helped take off some of the pressure. At times again today there was some good football being played with some nice passing - keep it up.

So now the Golden Eagles are into the final against TD Shipley, all of the games with TD have been great, exciting games, and with the benefit of a decent/neutral ref this one should prove to be an excellent final game of the season.

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  1 v 2 Oakwood

March 15th 2009 - Cup

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Max, Jack, Matt, Joe

Goal Scorers: Jack

The K/O cup semi-final 1st leg against Oakwood was always going to be a tight game and so it proved. The game started off well with the Eagles putting immediate pressure on the Oakwood goal, but it was Oakwood who struck first when a dipping shot squeezed under Jack to find the back of the net. Into the second half and the Eagles struck back within seconds of the kick off with Matt making a great run down the wing crossing the ball into the box which found Jack to level the game at 1-1. Both teams then had further chances to take the lead but shortly before the end of the game it was Oakwood who again found the back of the net. With no further goals, the final score was 2-1 to Oakwood. A bit disappointing for the boys as they played well and it was a close game, however there is still everything to play for in the 2nd leg.

March 15th 2009 - Cup

Squad: Jake, Owen Josh, Michael, Sam, Dan CS, George, Dan.DK, Leo, James

Goal Scorers: Michael (2)

It was the the first leg of the semi final for the league cup and the Golden Eagles were up against MSB Terriers from the red league.

The boys started brightly and began to pass it around well , with most of the game being played around in mid field. Then the ball went wide to Michael who broke towards goal and unleashed a great strike for 1-0 Perrywood. A few minutes later and Michael added another excellent goal to the score line 2-0 Perrywood . The boys at the back had to be solid and they were and restricted MSB in the number of chances they had, whilst the midfield ran and tackled hard and as usual helped forward and back all game.

In the second half at times the boys played some excellent football and we had some good chances but were unable to add to the score line, we had to be careful at the back as MSB were trying hard to get one back. Overall a really good performance but its only half time.

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  1 v 0 Maidenbower Sky blues

Mar 8th 2009 - League

Squad: Jake, Josh, Michael, Owen, Sam,  George, Dan.CS, Leo, James,

Goal Scorers: Leo

Well second to last league game for the Golden Eagles and the weather was just right for a nice game of football.

Perrywood started the game brightly and we had a few chances but our play seemed to be a bit hurried and we didn't really test the keeper. The defence had to be solid as Maidenbower were looking for a goal as well, but Jake wasn't really called into action, with the first ending 0-0.

The second half started the same with Perrywood pushing again for the opener, but again we went close but never on target. Then at last we scored through Leo who took his time and rounded the keeper and defender and then hit it back across goal into the bottom left corner. Maidenbower came back with a few breaks and looked like they were going to score on a couple of occasions but somehow didn't  and we survived to win 1-0.

Well done to all the boys.

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  2 v 0 Horley Town

Mar 1st 2009 - League

Squad: Jake, Josh, Michael, Sam,  George, Dan.DK, Leo, James

Goal Scorers: Michael (2)

Coming up to the last few games of the season and today a good game against Horley Town who have grown stronger through out the season.

The boys at the back were solid today and the midfield ran well, with the strikers having a few good chances in the first half but were unable to open the scoring.

The second half started the same way with Perrywood having most of the pressure and pushing for a goal, but we had to be switched on as Horley look to counter attack. We eventually opened the scoring through Michael, who added a second with a sublime effort that was struck a long way out and dipped in over the keeper. Final score 2-0 Perrywood.

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  1 v 0 Perrywood Spitfires

Feb 28th 2009 - Friendly

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Joe, Max, Jack, Matt, Jake, Owen, Josh, Sam, Dan.DK, Leo, George, Michael, Dan.CS, James

Goal Scorers: Max

Today we played our second 11-a-side friendly, this time against the Perrywood U11 Spitfires. The pitch at the Reigate priory was on a slope and for the first half we had to play up hill.

It was clear that the Spitfires were that little bit bigger and stronger and we had to battle hard to keep them at bay. There were a couple of close calls in the first half and Jack pulled off a good save to keep them out but by no means was it all one way traffic. We started making substitutions before the end of the first half and all the new boys were also up for the challenge .

The same boys started the second half and with the downhill advantage it was pretty even going, with both teams having attacking play. Half way through the players were swapped around again to keep up the pressure and we began to have a few good chances. Then after a good ball out of defence Jack crossed to Max, who calmly slotted past the keeper for 1-0 Eagles.

This seemed to spur the Spitfires into overdrive and they pushed hard in the last five minutes but the defence remained solid and Jakes handling was excellent.

Overall a great result and a well fought victory in which all the boys played extremely well against strong opposition - well done boys.

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  4 v 0 MSB Terriers

Feb 22nd 2009 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Max, Jack, Matt, Joe

Goal Scorers: Max (2), Benjamin (2)

This was the postponed game against the Terriers that had originally been timetabled for the Autumn. Nerves were high as a win here would put Eagles at the top of the league for the first time this season.

In the first half the Eagles seemed unable to put the passes together or control the ball as well as they can. Any chances were also put wide, hit the bar or well saved by MSB keeper, who was having a good game supported by the MSB defence who were closing down the Eagles attacks.

In the second half the Eagles came out re-energised but it was another 5 minutes before the duck was eventually broken with a well taken goal from Max. After that the team settled and they started to play well. Two further goals followed from Benjamin and just before the final whistle he also made a great run down the pitch past two players and, with a well played long pass (all apparently reminiscent of the coaches heyday....so he said!), set Max up to make it 4-0. Although the scoreline was a bit flattering and does not really do justice to the Terriers who defended well, it was a good win for the Eagles and has put them at the top of the league with 2 games to play.

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  0 v 0 Ifield Edwards

Feb 22nd 2009 - Cup

Squad: Jake, Josh, Michael, Sam, Dan CS, George, Dan.DK, Leo, James

Goal Scorers:

It was the second leg of the league cup against Ifield and we were 2-0 up from the first leg. We had a full squad of players for the first time in a while so a bit of a headache to pick the starting line up.

Both teams started well and there were efforts at both ends within the first few minutes, nothing too clear cut that trouble either keeper. From then on the game followed similar lines to the last two games against Ifield where it ended up as a draw (Ifield have really come on as a team from the first game we played and were difficult to break down).

There were times during the game where we had some good chances, one of which was Michael breaking through and firing a blistering shot that smashed against the cross bar. A few more efforts from corners for either teams but neither could manage to score and the game finished like the previous ones in a draw 0-0 but its Perrywood that goes through to the next round against MSB Terriers (from the red league).

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  1 v 0 MSB Gold

Feb 22nd 2009 - Cup

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Max, Jack, Matt, Joe

Goal Scorers: Max

Third round, second leg, of the knock out cup and the Eagles were looking for a place in the semi-final. Being 7-0 up from the 1st leg, there was already a comfortable margin so in anticipation of having to play another game later in the afternoon Dickie tried a different formation with Joe up front and Matt supporting in defence. The Eagles took the lead half way through the first half with a goal from Max but for the most part the unfamiliar roles meant the team did not settle well and seemed to struggle to know what to do with the ball. When they did get near the MSB Gold goal, they were unable to convert the chances.

There was however little threat from MSB and Jack F remained untroubled for most of the game. As a final twist, with 5 minutes to go, Jack F was swapped upfront (with James H going in goal), and almost made it onto the score sheet with a great left footed strike. Anyway, final score 1-0 (8-0 on aggregate) and a game against Oakwood in the semi-finals as a reward.

Feb 16th 2009 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Max, Jack, Matt

Goal Scorers: Jack.D,  Max, Matt

So, with 4 league games left to play, every point counts if the Eagles want to finish the season well. This was the first of 2 successive games against the Terriers, one of which is to catch up on a postponed game from earlier in the season. Best wishes to Joe who was out injured this week.

Following on from a well played friendly against Crawley on Saturday, the team started a bit nervously and although there was some good teamwork and passing, they found it difficult to convert the build up into successful goal attempts. However, half way through the first half, the pressure eventually paid off with Jack D getting the first goal and Matt then adding a second just before half time. In the second half the game continued in a similar vein but with a little bit of controversy and a disputed penalty decision. However, this did not put the Eagles off and they continued to play well with Max slotting the ball into the net to make it a final score of 3-0.

At this point in the season I think we should give a special mention to Lee for being the Eagles volunteer home referee. It is not an easy job (getting grief from opposition and home supporters alike!) but from those of us watching on the sidelines.....thank you.

Feb 15th 2009 - Friendly

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Joe, Max, Jack, Matt, Jake, Owen, Josh, Sam, Dan.DK, Leo, George, Michael

Goal Scorers: Jay, Jack.D

Today the boys had their first 11-a-side friendly against Crawley United. It was a cold and frosty morning when we started but the sun was out and the ground soon softened up and turned into ideal football conditions.

It was a bit strange to see the boys lined up on a big pitch and the goalies standing in such large goals. To be honest I think the play was a lot better than I had thought it would be, with the boys holding their shape and positions very well.

It was a good game to watch and Crawley are a quality team, both sets of players battled well and Perrywood came out eventual winners 2-1.

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  5 v 0 Maidenbower Girls

Feb 9th 2009 - League

Squad: Jake, Owen, Josh, Sam, Dan.DK, Leo, George, Michael

Goal Scorers: Michael, Dan.DK, Sam (2), George

The boys started brightly today and virtually from kick off Michael broke through and scored for 1-0 Perrywood. I said before the game that I wanted to see more passing and more talking between the boys, and I was pleased with how they performed today.

Dan.DK scored a second, and then Sam added a brace and George got on the score sheet to make it five. We had plenty more shots and James hit the post at least twice in the second and the maidenbower keeper made a few good saves as well. Sam tried hard to get a hat trick but it wasn't going to be, with Sam pushing forward looking for goals Owen had to be on his toes as Maidenbower were looking to counter at any opportunity.

Credit to maidenbower girls they kept going and certainly in the second half played really well and I hope that this season has benefited them. As for us the performance rather than the result was more important for me, and it was a good one so well done boys

Feb 9th 2009 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Joe, Max, Jack, Matt

Goal Scorers: Jack.D, Jay (2), Max, Matt (2)

After the last 2 freezing Sundays it was good to see the sun out and the temperature a bit higher. Matt was also back having recovered from his ankle injury and so the Eagles were up to full strength.

The Eagles based on league form were the clear favourites for this and Jack D scored soon after the kick off to give the team an early lead. James followed this up with a second, but MSB were not going to give in and shortly after managed a swift break into the Eagles half to pull one back to 2-1. However the Eagles defence, in the form of Adam and Joe, were up to the task and from then on gave little opportunity for MSB breaks to threaten Jack F. The rest of the game was very much in the Eagles favour with Benjamin and Max threatening down the wings and James and Jack D playing down the centre feeding the ball to Matt upfront. The goal count then steadily rose with goals from Jack D, Matt taking the next 2 and then another from James. Saying that, the score could have been higher but for the MSB goalkeeper who, despite the scoreline, actually had a really good game and made some terrific saves to keep the goal tally down. Anyway final score 6-1 and the Eagles remain 3rd in the league with a game in hand over the league leaders.

Squad: Jake, Owen, Josh, Sam, Dan.DK, Leo, Dan.CS, George

Goal Scorers: Dan.DK, Leo (2)

Well I will fill in all the details when I get them, but it was a freezing day today, with snow on the ground and more falling making it difficult playing conditions. We were a few players short and as agreed with Oakwood we played 8 v 8 to get as many people running around and keeping warm as possible. As always with this it makes the pitch a bit crowded but I must say Oakwood played and defended well. Its clear to see that they have progressed well during the year and all credit to them especially in todays weather. At times when we did pass the ball we managed to create some good chances and eventually we scored towards the end of the first half, the boys added another couple in the second half, but still were getting too carried away by trying to beat player after player instead of playing it simple.

Overall a good solid game in poor conditions, but well played to the girls for their continued effort.

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  1 v 0 Oakwood

Feb 2nd 2009 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Joe, Max, Jack

It was a freezing day with snow covering the ground as the Eagles came up against the team that has been at or near the top of the league for most of the season. Matt was still out and so Michael was brought up from the Golden Eagles as a reserve.

The first half saw the Eagles taking control with much of the game in the Oakwood half, but unable to convert the chances. Overall the team were playing really well, Jack F making the saves when Oakwood broke; Adam and Joe keeping things secure at the back; James, Max and Benjamin turning in some good midfield and wing performances and Jack D putting pressure on the Oakwood defences at the front. In the second half Oakwood picked up a gear, placing more pressure on the Eagles defence, but with the attacks being closed down at both ends, it looked like the game was going to remain goalless. However 5 minutes from the end, a Perrywood attack finished with a good shot from outside the penalty area, which cleared the keeper and into the back of the net. With no more goals this left Perrywood the victors at 1-0.

This was a really good win and has left the league wide open with everything to play for. With the Eagles 2 points behind the joint leaders and a game in hand they still remain contenders for the top spot.

Squad: Jake, Owen, Josh, Michael, Sam, Dan.DK, Leo, James, Dan.CS, George

Goal Scorers: Dan.CS

After receiving some correspondence from outside the club I have edited the following report. Even though this site is meant for Perywood players/parents it seems that other people read it, so of course there is no intention to upset people (editing restrictions on the web!)

Whenever two people watch a football match you will always get two different opinions on how the game has gone its only natural, views on this website are as seen from Perrywood's view, if people see it in a different light then that of course is ok and please feel free to express yourself elsewhere. Or if you send me a report I will put it on the website - we are missing a reporter for the Golden Eagles so any help would do, plus would be good to see it from the other side (cant say fairer than that - because I am all into fair)

I seem to be doing it a lot at the moment but I would like to issue an apology for celebrating the Perrywood goal by jumping on and down and running around like a lunatic, some times when you are not getting the rub of the green and yet manage to break through you get a bit carried away - perhaps i need to stop watching Martin o'neill and Neil warnock.

Lastly I have nothing against TD using players from Crawley town, everyone knows about it and its all legal etc, just saying that TD has grown in strength tremendously with the additions, the goalie today was in excellent form a real talent who made some excellent saves.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a great game with TD today who have grown in strength over the season into a very strong side, and with in a few minutes we were caught out at the back and fell behind to a well taken goal. From then on I thought we played some excellent football, probably the best of the season.

The TD goalie made some great saves during the game, one from michael and then saved the rebound from Dan.CS (who had several more chances), he tipped one past the post from Sam that look destined for the top corner. Meanwhile at the back we were solid and kept TD shut out, only with a couple of corners to deal with Jake was hardly troubled in goal.

During one of our attacks in the second half Dan.cs broke past the last defender and calmly slotted in the equaliser, and it looked like a draw was on the cards - which was the least we deserved. Then from a TD throw they broke down one side, crossed and scored to make it 2-1

The boys heads did not drop and we kept the tempo going only for Dan to be chopped down when bursting through on goal. Michaels resulting free kick was heading on target when a defender in the wall jumped with his arm above his head and blocked the shot. We had a few more chances late on but unfortunately we could not find the back of the net.

My own personal view of the game and my opinion was that we were the better team today and deserved more from the game, but for various reasons we didn't. Some might say that we were not and that we got all that we deserved, but that would be their opinions of which they are entitled to.

To end on I have heard that some players behaved in an unsporting manner at the end of the game, not trying to be like Wenger but I didn't see it myself as I was shaking hands with the TD coaches (I looked for the ref as well but he had left!), but please no matter what the result, or how you felt the game was played or officiated please shake hands at the end of the game .

I really do enjoy the games we have with TD, they are always tough exciting games, and I am sure they do to, its much better than beating some one 4-0 or more.

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  6 v 0 Worth Park Rangers

Jan 25th 2009 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Joe, Max, Jack

Goal Scorers: Jack.D (3), Jay, Max, Benjamin

With Matt out with an ankle injury (Best wishes for a speedy recovery Matt, hope it mends soon) the Eagles had no substitutes for a game against the side that are at the bottom of the league with no wins recorded.

The Eagles were therefore hopeful of a positive result given WPR's record and within 20 seconds of the Rangers kick off had tackled, made a couple of passes and James had put the ball past the keeper to make it 1-0. This was very much the theme of the match with Max adding a second and Benjamin a third before half time. In reality it could have been more with a number of shots going just wide and a couple hitting the post. In the second half the Eagles again seemed unable to convert the chances, and it was not until the last 5 minutes that Jack D managed to claim his first goal of the match tapping a Benjamin cross into the net. He then followed it up with 2 more in rapid succession to give him his hat-trick just before the final whistle. Good win for the boys 6-0.

To add to Malcolm's report it was a good win for us as I think WPR have improved over the season, and that can been seen by the result, but well done boys lets take it into next weeks game against Oakwood, a win then and the same against Maidenbower Navy Blues (and the other teams) could see us grab top spot.

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  0 v 0 Ifield Edwards

Jan 18th 2009 - League

Squad: Jake, Owen, Josh, Michael, Sam, Dan.DK, Leo, James, Dan.CS

Goal Scorers:

Well Dan.CS was back for today's game after about 4 weeks out, but George was not available so Leo had to cover the centre midfield role.

Both teams started brightly in the first half and Ifield defended very well and tried to catch us with the counter attack. I am not sure why but we didn't get our passing game going today, and at time struggled to string more than a couple together, perhaps it was the good work from ifield that didn't let us play.

We had quite a few chances in each half to take the lead but could not score, and towards the end had a scares at the back as Ifield put some of their own pressure own and broke through on goal, only for James to get back and make a god tackle.

At times it seemed like we didn't want to win the ball as we were not getting stuck in, we need to make sure that we get the ball down and start passing a bit more.

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  1 v 0 Maidenbower Royal

Jan 18th 2009 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Joe, Max, Matt, Jack

Goal Scorers: Jay

On league form the Eagles should have the edge on the Royals but have found them to be a particularly difficult team to play against. With one loss and a draw in their previous encounters the Eagles therefore needed to turn in a strong performance. Not surprisingly it was an end to end match from the start with both teams getting close but never quite managing to get past the goalkeepers. The Royals had a number of corners and chances that threatened which were closed out by Adam, Joe and Jack F, whereas at the other end Benjamin, Matt and Jack D all had opportunities which were either saved or went just wide. The second half carried on in the same way but the deadlock was eventually broken when a long throw in from Max found James who put the ball into the net to give the Eagles the lead. With no further goals the Eagles held on to take the game 1-0.

Well done boys keep the pressure up for the next few weeks.

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Joe, Max, Matt, Jack

Goal Scorers: Benjamin

Things had warmed up (slightly) for the second match of the New Year against another tough team in the form of MSB Diamonds who were in 3rd place above the Eagles at the start of the weekend.
It was a close game from the kick off and although the Eagles probably had the edge with possession in the first half, the Diamonds kept up the pressure. There were a number of near misses at both ends but the game remained goalless at half time.

In the second half MSB pushed up strongly and the Eagles were lucky to escape on a couple of occasions when MSB either shot wide or the defence, in the form of Joe and Adam, managed to intervene. However it was the Eagles who eventually scored with the ball being passed to Benjamin on the edge of the MSB penalty area and he neatly slotted it past the keeper to give the Eagles the lead. It was the only goal of the game which gave the Eagles a 1-0 victory and enabled them to swap positions with MSB in the league.

Boys a good win today as Malcolm says but we need to be more switched on because at times we rode our luck today, and on another day could have been punished, but well done and up to third.

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  3 v 1 Maidenbower Sky Blues

Jan 11th 2009 - League

Squad: Jake, Owen, Josh, Michael, Sam, Dan.DK, Leo, James, George

Goal Scorers: Dan.DK, Sam, Leo

George was back for us today but Dan.CS was still sunning himself in Portugal - he will have a shock when he gets back.

At times we played some good football today and had some good chances, the first one of which was put away when Michael took a low corner that was flicked across goal by Josh and as the keeper spilt it Dan.DK smashed it into the roof of the net for 1-0. A few more chances came and went, then Sam headed in another Michael corner and the first half finished 2-0 Perrywood.

Maidenbower didn't cave in and carried on attacking, we added a third when Josh was played in down the left wing, crossed into the box which skipped past James and the Maidenbower keeper and Leo slid in to knock it over the line. Maidenbower scored a goal late on from a throw in that just managed to get past Jake, so the final score was 3-1.

A good win today but going forward we need to (1) make sure that even with changes we remain switch on at the back, mark up and make sure we attack the ball and clear the box. There were some times in the second half when the maidenbower throws were coming into our area unchallenged. (2) we need to start shooting more, at times we take too long in and around their area instead of taking the shot, but we still remain top and are playing well.

Man of the Match: Dan.DK

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  2 v 0 Horley Town

Jan 4th 2009 - League

Squad: Jake, Owen, Josh, Michael, Sam, Dan.DK, Leo, James

Goal Scorers: Michael, Josh

The first game of 2009 for the Goldens was against Horley town and we were missing a couple of players in George and Dan.CS so we had to shuffle the pack a bit.

Horley are a pretty solid team so things were never going to be easy but I must admit the boys played some good football today and of the chances we had in the first half michael scored from close range to make it 1-0 Perrywood.  The Golden Eagles defence was very solid and protected Jake well, with Horley only having one good chance in the second half when we didn't come out quickly to close the play and they struck the cross bar - if that had gone in it could have been a much different game.

As it was we pressed on, and had several good chances of our own, late on Josh scored the second goal to secure the win, with a cross come shot that chipped the keeper and found its way into the net, final score 2-0 Perrywood.

Well done to all the boys as the performance was good today.

Man of the Match: Sam

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  2 v 2 Maidenbower Navy Blues

Jan 4th 2009 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Joe, Max, Matt, Jack

Goal Scorers: James, Matt

A Happy New Year to all. The first game of 2009 was played in below freezing temperatures against tough opposition in the form of Maidenbower Navy Blues who are in 2nd place in the league ahead of the Eagles.

The Eagles kicked off and took immediate control of the game with frequent forays into the Maidenbower half. This was rewarded about 10 minutes into the game with James H scoring the first goal of the game to put the Eagles ahead. MNB, however responded immediately and with one of their few breaks into the Eagles half, managed to pull the goal back to make it 1-1 at half time. In the second half, MNB picked up their game and with more end to end play there were near misses at both ends keeping the Eagles defence on its toes.

Although it was MNB that managed to grab their second to take the lead, the Eagles continued to fight back and in the dying moments of the game a superb strike from Matt outside the box soared over the MNB keeper into the net. On balance the boys probably had the the run of play and deserved to win but were happy to leave with honours shared. Final score 2-2

To echo Malcolm above I would just like to say well done to all the boys today, I thought for the first half we controlled the game and deserved to get more from it, but in the second half maidenbower got right back at us and with the quality players that they have converted their chances, but overall well done.

Man of the Match: Adam

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  2 v 0 Ifield Edwards

Dec 21st 2008 - League Cup

Squad: Jake, Josh, Michael, Sam, Dan CS, George, Dan.DK, Leo, James

Goal Scorers: OG, Leo

Well after being put out of the knock out cup previously the Goldens were now into the League cup and were drawn against Ifield Edwards.

For the first half Perrywood were on the attack but could not score, there was a time when we had about 4 or 5 corners straight after each other but no one could convert any of them. Ifield looked dangerous now and again on the counter attack but Josh and Sam were pretty solid to ensure that Jake was not overly troubled in goal.

The second half was much the same and eventually the Perrywood pressure paid off, I am not sure completely what happened for the goal but it looked like an Ifield defender sort of caught the ball and then threw it into the net, I don't think any one had a real shot it was just a goal mouth scrap so will put it down as an own goal. All the time whilst the score was there was always a chance that Ifield could break and equalise, but luckily a corner from Dan.CS was headed in by Leo to finish it off at 2-0.

Well done boys, overall some good play so far this season but they will get harder so keep it up.

Man of the Match: James

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  7 v 0 MSB Gold

Dec 21st 2008 - Knock out Cup

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Joe, Max, Matt, Jack

Goal Scorers: James (3), Benjamin (2), Max (2)

The last game before Christmas was a Cup game against MSB Gold, a Blue league side that the Golden Eagles had beaten 2-0 the previous week.

From the off the Eagles were largely in control but it was a nervy start and the team almost went 1-0 down when MSB broke away and shot just wide. After 10 minutes of scrappy play and near misses at both ends the Eagles eventually settled down and the goals then started to flow with James H opening the scoring. After that there was no stopping the team and with some really good football and passing between all the boys, Max and Benjamin managed to score 2 goals each and James claimed his hatrick.  Final score of 7-0, although given the number of near misses it could have been more. Overall it's been a good start to the season for the team, still in contention in the league in third place and comfortably going forward in the cup. They can be proud of themselves and can take a well deserved Christmas break....before coming back for the 1st game of 2009 against the Navy Blues. Thanks to the Dickie and Simon for their hard work with the boys. Happy Christmas to all !

Man of the Match: Matt

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  2 v 0 MSB Gold

Dec 14th 2008 - League

Squad: Jake, Josh, Michael, Sam, Dan CS, George, Dan.DK, Leo, James

Goal Scorers: Michael (2)

The temperature really had dropped by the time the Golden Eagles kicked started as they kicked off at 4:00pm. The boys as always started brightly and within a few minutes had already created a couple of chances. MSB managed to keep us at bay and had a few counter attacks that had to keep us on our toes at the back. Michael netted two goals which were near identical as he cut in from the right wing and so the first half ended 2-0 Perrywood.

The second half carried on in the same way with Perrywood having the lion share of the play, but MSB breaking away a couple of times but rarely tested Jake in goal. I think pretty much all of the outfield player had shots at goal (and most on target), so we were a bit unlucky not to add to the score, but its if we didnt make the chances in the first place I would worry - well done to all the boys and the parents for the good support.

Man of the Match: Josh

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  2 v 0 MSB Terriers

Dec 14th 2008 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Joe, Max, Matt

Goal Scorers: Matt, Joe

The Eagles had not faced the Terriers in the Red League as their first match had been postponed but the form of each team to date suggested the Eagles should be favourites. It turned out to be quite a nervy match and the passes did not always come together and the right touches in front of the goal were not quite made. However, the run of play was clearly with the Eagles and the majority of the game was played in the Terriers half with Jack F having a very quiet time. Some good goals, one from Matt in the first half and one from Joe in the second, were enough to ensure the 3 points. Final score 2-0.

Man of the Match: James

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  4 v 0 MSB Whites

Dec 7th 2008 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Joe, Max, Matt

Goal Scorers: Max (2), Jay, Joe

Another Sunday, another random time, it must be another football match !.... Although it was cold, the sun was shining and the anticipation was high for the Eagles to put in a good performance. They didn't disappoint and from the off they were in charge of the game. Jay opened the scoring and Max followed this up with a second just before half time. MSB battled hard and occassionally threatened but the Eagles were on good form playing an excellent passing game and moving the ball around the pitch from the defence though midfield and up to the front. The second half carried on in the same way with Joe and Max adding goals 3 and 4.  With a little more luck and slightly tighter finishing the goal tally might have been higher but a great game from all. Final score 4-0.

Man of the Match: Joe

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  8 v 0 Maidenbower Girls

Dec 7th 2008 - League

Squad: Josh, Owen, Michael, Sam, Dan CS, George, Dan.DK, Leo

Goal Scorers: George (3), Michael (3), Leo, Dan.CS

It was a very cold and frosty morning and pitch one was a bit slippery when the Golden Eagles took on Maidenbower girls. Perrywood were quickly out the traps and within a few seconds of the kick off Dan.CS had scored to make it 1-0. Goals followed from George and Michael and another from Leo. The second half contnued with the boys putting on the pressure with both George and Michael completing hat tricks.

Maidenbower almost caught us out a few times on the counter attack, as all the boys pushed forward to try to get onto the score sheet, fortunately for us Sam had the pace to get back and get the tackle in. Credit to the girls who kept on going and kept trying to attack.

Man of the Match: George

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  1 v 1 Oakwood

Nov 30th 2008 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Joe, Max, Jack

Goal Scorers: Max

With Matt unfortunately off ill, the Eagles were only just up to strength against the top side in the table. Having had a day off due to a waterlogged training pitch, they seemed rested and ready for the challenge. From the kick off it was end to end play with both teams threatening but defences holding up. However, the Eagles were playing well and some good passing kept up the pressure, which paid off half way through the first half with a cross into the box being being well struck into the back of the net by Max to give the Eagles the lead. It looked like the Eagles would retain the lead but just before half time, Oakwood found a gap and managed to level the score.

The second half continued in the same way and some good defending (some hard knocks particularly taken by Adam) ensured no way through for Oakwood. At the other end a number of attempts kept the Oakwood keeper busy but no further goals. A great team game well played by all the Eagles, who deserve a lot of credit for the way they played. Whilst they possibly had the run of play in their favour, the 1-1 draw was still a good result to take from the game. It goes to show that the boys at their best are the equal of any team in the league.

Just to add to Malcolm's report this was a much better game for the Eagles, we were solid at the back and I think overall had the best chances to win it, need to keep it up for next weeks game.

Man of the Match: Adam

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  6 v 0 Oakwood Girls

Nov 30th 2008 - League

Squad: Josh, Owen, Michael, Sam, Dan CS, George, James, Jake

Goal Scorers: Dan.DK (2), Michael, Josh, Leo, Dan.CS

The Golden Eagles were up for the second game against oakwood, and for this game in the blue league the opposition were oakwood girls. Jake was poorly for this one so James covered in goal for the first half and Owen took over for the second. We had quite a few efforts in the first half and the Oakwood keeper was in good form, I think between her and the woodwork the first half finished 2-0 with goals from Dan.DK and Michael.

The pressure continued in the second with Perrywood passing it around a bit better. Goals followed from Josh, Dan.DK and Dan.CS plus one from Leo. Josh curled another effort that hot the post, Sam went just over and James went just wide - i could go on.

Overall it was a good win, oakwood kept their heads up and kept battling away and closing down, keep it up.

Man of the Match: Dan.DK

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  5 v 0 Worth Park Rangers

Nov 23rd 2008 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jay, Benjamin, Matt, Joe, Max

Goal Scorers: Matt (2), Benjamin (3), Jay, Max

Worth Park's record in the Red league has not been particularly strong and the Eagles, after a difficult game last week, were hopeful of getting back into winning form. From the kick off the Eagles looked in control of the game and within minutes goals by Matt and Max had put the Eagles 2-0 up. Matt followed this up with a great header from a corner to make it 3-0 and then, with a neat one-two, assisted Benjamin who made it 4-0 at half time.

Into the second half and Worth Park started to pick up and make a number of forays into the Eagles half but Adam, Joe and Jack F all played well at the back to ensure that the threats were contained. Back at the other end, Benjamin knocked in goal number 5 and Matt was again instrumental in goal number 6 which Jay just touched over the line to claim. In the closing minutes of the game, Benjamin ran the ball from the half way line to slot the ball past goalkeeper for his hatrick. Final score 7-0.

Man of the Match: Joe

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  2 v 2 TD Shipley

Nov 23rd 2008 - League

Squad: Josh, Owen, Michael, Sam, Dan CS, George, James, Jake

Goal Scorers: Michael (2)

Well it was the second fixture against TD Shipley, and we knew it was going to be tight as now TD have a fair few players from the Crawley Town A team that play for TD on a Sunday.

It was pretty much nip and tuck the whole game with both teams playing really good football. Perrywood were the first to score, with Michael breaking well and shooting low down into the corner. TD equalised through a corner that they headed in, and the first half finished 1-1.

The second half started much the same with both teams pushing for the winner, and TD scored next when they flicked in from a free kick. Perrywood battled hard and fought back and Michael scored another good goal to make it 2-2. We had a chance late on to make it 3-2 but the TD keeper made a good save and the final score was 2-2. It is clear with the new players that TD will be the main competitors for both the Blue league and the League cup.

We need to make sure that we keep the good results going till we meet again next year.

Man of the Match: Michael

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  1 v 1 Ifield Edwards

Nov 16th 2008 - League

Squad: Josh, Owen, Michael, Sam, Dan CS, George, Dan.DK, James, Jake

Goal Scorers: Dan.CS

It was the start of round two of the fixtures and the Golden Eagles were up against Ifield Edwards. This was a bit of a strange one and perhaps after the Eagles game it was apparent that maybe this weekend was not to be the best for Perrywood. The boys started well as usual and within the first few minutes had already had several shots on goal with Michael and Josh both going close. The first half continued this way but no one could manage to get the ball in the net, the Ifield keeper made a few good saves and we hit the post, but still the half finished 0-0.

The second half started is the same way with the Golden Eagles having all the running, Ifield tried to counter a few times but nothing that needed Jake to save, the boys at the back were very solid. I think we hit the post again before the un-thinkable happened - Ifield broke down the right, skipped a few challenges, crossed it in and slotted it into the net 1-0 Edwards. This seemed to spark a bit more life into us and within a minute or so we were back level, and then spent the last five minutes peppering the Ifield goal but could not get the winner.

I guess during the game we probably had close to twenty efforts on goal but only found the net once, Ifield managed to break through once and scored once. Overall we played well but must polish those shooting boots and also ensure that we stay switched on for all 30 minutes.

Man of the Match: Michael

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  1 v 2 Maidenbower Royal Blues

Nov 16th 2008 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jack, Jay, Benjamin, Matt, Joe, Max

Goal Scorers: Jack

It was onto the second phase of the red league as the Eagles this week started playing the 2nd game against each of the sides. The Eagles did not play particularly well in their first game against the Royal Blues, just managing to hold on for a 0-0 draw then, but having recently beaten the Navy Blues, there seemed a chance of snatching a win here. However, from the outset, it was evident that this was not going to be part of the Royals game plan. Although the Eagles managed some intermittently good passing play and at times threatened the Royal's goal, this was not enough and, following a bit of a lucky deflection, the Royals took the lead. Into the second half and the Eagles seemed unable to deal effectively with the attacks and it was not long before the Royals grabbed a second. The Eagles continued to press and started to put more urgency into their play, but it was only in the closing stages as the game disappeared beyond reach that a long range shot from Jack D found its way past the keeper for a consolation goal. Final score 2-1 to the Royals

Reading this report from malcolm and the last report against the Royals, there seems to follow a similar line. I think with the Royals they work extremely and just seemed to want the ball more than we did, and they battled hard all game, we just need to switch on from the start and get stuck in for these type of games.

Man of the Match: Benjamin

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  3 v 1 Maidenbower Sky Blues

Nov 9th 2008 - League

Squad: Josh, Owen, Michael, Leo, Sam, Dan CS, George

Goal Scorers: Josh, Michael, Dan.CS

The Golden Eagles welcomed George back to the team this week but were missing Jake, James and Dan.DK, and for a moment it looked like we might have to play with six boys as we were short right up until kick off time when Dan.CS turned up. Jakes absence caused us a bit of a concern and I wont say Owen volunteered to go in goal but he didn't object too much :)

The boys started well and within the first few minutes we had some good chances on goal but Maidenbower were defending well. It wasn't till the ball came out to Josh half way into the Sky blues half that he hit it up and over everyone into the top corner 1-0 Perrywood and that was how the first half finished.

The second started pretty much the same and Maidenbower tried to counter attack but generally we stayed solid at the back. Michael who ran and tackled all through the match added another goal and so did Dan.CS, but on another day we could have scored nine or ten (The Sky blues keeper was on top form).  One of the maidenbower counter attacks broke through and they pulled a goal back (although not really sure if it completely crossed the line) and a moment after Owen saved well with his knees to keep the score decent. Final score 3-1 Golden Eagles.

Man of the Match: Owen

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  0 v 0 MSB Diamonds

Nov 9th 2008 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jack, Jay, Benjamin, Matt, Joe, Max

Goal Scorers:

MSB Diamonds had a similar record so it was going to be another tough league match for the Eagles. The game was end to end from the kick off with both teams attacking and coming under pressure in equal measure.  The nearest the Eagles came to scoring in the first half was when MSB just managed to clear off the line from Matt who was attempting to convert a cross from Max. Into the second half and all the boys were playing well with Jack F, Adam and Joe working hard in the rear to close down attacks. Benjamin, Max, Jack D and James H were all passing well and pushing forward from mid-field and up the wings and Matt was up front challenging the defence. However, neither team could get the upper hand and the final score 0-0 was probably a fair result on the day.

Man of the Match: Adam

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  6 v 2 TD Shipley

Nov 2nd 2008 - Knock out cup

Squad: Jack, Adam, Gus, Jay, Benjamin, Matt, Joe, Max

Goal Scorers: Max (4), Matt, Gus

The first cup game of the season had drawn the Eagles with TD Shipley from the Blue League. The Eagles were clear favourites but it was evident from the outset that TD Shipley were not going to be an easy side to beat and there was an early scare with a TD header going just wide. The Eagles however started to settle down with Matt opening the scoring and Max following this up to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead at half time. Early in the second half Max added a third but TD did not give up and responded strongly with 2 long range goals to pull back the score to 3-2. The increased challenge seemed however to spur the Eagles on and with the passing play improving the goals started to flow with Gus adding the fourth and Max claiming his hat-trick and another goal on top. Final score 6-2 and through to the next round.

Man of the Match: Max

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  0 v 2  MSB Diamonds

Nov 2nd 2008 - Knock out cup

Squad: Jake, Josh, Owen, Michael, Leo, Sam, Dan CS, James

Goal Scorers: Michael

The Golden Eagles were up against MSB Diamonds from the red league so it was always going to be a tough draw in the knock out cup. The Golden's played well but you could see from the start that MSB were just that bit sharper, the tackling, the control and the passes. MSB broke through the team several times and at the end of the first half were 2-0 up. We had a few chances ourselves with Josh probably having the best effort when he cut in and struck it with his left foot. The second half proved a bit better for Perrywood as we battled a bit harder and had a few chances. The boys at the back kept MSB from adding to the score line and the midfield ran and tackled well. I think if we could have scored one then it might have made in interesting but in the end it was just a step too far for us. So the Goldens drop out of the knock out cup and will now play in the League cup. With the Eagles knocking TD into that cup it could be interesting to see how the first round is drawn, but with the right performances we could go all the way.

Man of the Match: Dan.CS

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  1 v 0  Horley Town

Oct 26th 2008 - League

Squad: Jake, Josh, Owen, Michael, Leo, Sam, Dan DK

Goal Scorers: Michael

A mixture of holidays and injuries meant that the Golden Eagles were missing a few players (George, James & Dan.CS) so we were down to the bare seven players. We started off brightly and had a few chances but could not open the scoring. Horley were battling well and and caught us on the counter attack a couple of times but Jake managed to keep them out. during the first half we always seemed to be second best to the ball and it looked like we didn't really want to compete in the tackles, this changed a bit in the second half and when Josh picked the ball up from a throw and squared it across the pitch, Michael was on hand to drive the ball home for a great goal. Horley put up a good fight and continued to press but we held solid at the back and threatened up front but could not add to the scores. We will have to work a lot harder next week in the cup if we want to get a similar result, but for this week we will take the 3-points.

Man of the Match: Josh

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  1 v 0 Maidenbower Navy Blues

Oct 26th 2008 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Gus, Jay, Max, Benjamin, Matt,

Goal Scorers: Jack.D

A match against Maidenbower Navy Blues, the dominant side of last season, was always going to be tough but following a successful pre-season friendly against them the Eagles were up for the challenge. Maidenbower appeared to have the slight advantage in the first half with the play being brought to the Eagles end and Jack F being kept busy. Although Perrywood were strong on the break the nearest either side came to scoring was a well struck shot by Matt that hit the cross bar. In the 2nd half the roles reversed with the Eagles largely in the Maidenbower half playing some good attacking football. Approximately 5 minutes into the 2nd half an overly enthusiastic challenge by Maidenbower brought Jack D down, who took a nicely struck free kick which sailed over the Maidenbower defence and into the goal to make it 1-0. On balance Perrywood retained the possession advantage but Maidenbower continued to be dangerous and it was only the goalkeeping skills of Jack F that prevented Maidenbower from equalising. Final score 1-0 to Perrywood.

Man of the Match: Jack.F

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  2 v 0  MSB Gold

Oct 19th 2008 - League

Squad: Jake, Josh, Owen, James, Dan CS, George, Michael, Leo, Sam, Dan DK

Goal Scorers: Leo (2)

After a bit of a double booking on the pitch and a slight delay we eventually managed to get the game underway, and the boys started on the attack. During the first half we had a lot of the play and quite a few chances and Leo opened the scoring with a well met header at the back post after Michael had whipped in a good corner. MSB pushed a bit harder in the second half but still I don't think Jake had a shot to save. A few went close but Jake watched then safely behind for a goal kick. As always we continued to swap the players, and players positions around to give everyone as much play as possible and I think this disrupted the game a bit, but we still netted a second when Josh squared the ball to Leo who smashed it home from well outside the area. 2-0 final score to Perrywood.

Although it was a good win I still feel we need to pass it around a lot more, and start to communicate with each other (it was very quiet out the today), but overall well done to all the boys.

Man of the Match: Leo

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  0 v 2 Oakwood

Oct 19th 2008 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Gus, Jay, Max, Benjamin, Matt, Joe,

Goal Scorers:

The Eagles were up against Oakwood this week and it was expected to be a tough game with skill levels quite evenly matched between the two sides. Perrywood team work therefore needed to be at its best. Although it started off well with some attacking play by the team, once again against a strong opposition the side seemed vulnerable to a well organised break. With 5 minutes gone the Oakwood forwards evaded the Perrywood defence and, despite the best efforts of Jack F, slotted the ball into the net. The Eagles continued the attacking play in the rest of the first half and into the second to try and find the equaliser but some of the team work and passing was not quite where it needed to be with the ball given away too easily at times. There were attempts at both ends but Oakwood had the edge and after a goal line scramble scored their second to put the game beyond the Eagles with only a few minutes left. Final score 2-0 to Oakwood

Man of the Match: Gus

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  3 v 1 MSB Whites

Oct 12th 2008 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jack.D, Jay, Max, Benjamin, Matt, Joe,

Goal Scorers: Max (2), Jack.D

Following a week off, the Eagles were back in action with a game against Mid-Sussex White. The Eagles started well and largely dominated the first half which was characterised by some great passing play and good scoring chaces, 2 of which Max converted to leave the Eagles 2-0 up at half time. The second half started in similar vein with Benjamin setting up Jack D to make it 3-0. However the game then turned and the Eagles then came under considerable pressure and seemed unable to respond to the newly energised Mid-Sussex who after a couple of saves by Jack F managed to convert from a corner to pull one back.  Although the Eagles managed to get a couple more chances, there were no more goals and the score finshed 3-1 to the Eagles.

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  8 v 0  Maidenbower Girls

Oct 12th 2008 - League

Squad: Jake, Josh, Owen, James, Dan CS, George, Michael, Leo, Sam

Goal Scorers: Dan.CS (4), Michael (2), Sam, Leo

Well unfortunately I was unable to make the game this week so we missed out with a match report or any pictures, but I hear that the boys played well. We took a while to get going and at the end of the first half we were 2-0 up, but the second half brought another 6 as we started to play some good football.

I think the maidenbower will be the same as oakwood girls, and will improve as the season goes on. Its always takes a wile to get things in place, so next time I am sure they will be strnger.

Man of the Match: Sam

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  9 v 0  Oakwood Girls

Oct 5th 2008 - League

Squad: Jake, Josh, Owen, James, Daniel DK, Dan CS, George, Michael, Leo

Goal Scorers: Dan.CS (2), Leo (2), Michael (2), Josh, George, OG

Well it was raining cats and dogs when the Golden Eagles played their first game of the season against Oakwood girls. The girls were not worried about getting their hair wet and were putting up a solid defence for the first few minutes, but it didn't long for the Golden Eagles to break through. The conditions were hard with the rain pouring down and the strong wind blowing in across the pitch. The ball was fizzing around and at times both teams struggled with the control but Perrywood went into the break 4-0 up.

The second half started how the first half finished with Perrywood camped out in the Oakwood half, the girls were still battling hard and tried to catch us on the break as everyone tried to get on the score sheet but James and Owen were solid at the back. At times we managed to get some nice passing going and scored some good goals but still need to get our heads up more and seek out the easy pass.

For sure Oakwood will improve as the season progresses so we must not be complacent next time we meet.

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  1 v 0  TD Shipley

Sep 28th 2008 - League

Squad: Jake, Josh, Owen, James, Daniel DK, Dan CS, George, Sam, Michael

Goal Scorers: Josh

The second game of the season for the Goldens was against TS shipley, who finished as runners up last year so we knew it was going to be a good game. The first half started well with Perrywood running most of the game. TD defended in numbers and were hard to break down, always having many behind the ball. Occasionally TD countered but the Perrywood defence snuffed out most attacks before they got to Jake in goal. The boys showed some good passing at times and had many shots at goal but could not break the deadlock. We had one great move which started from a Perrywood goal kick - Jake out to Josh, along the line to Michael, in to George and back to Michael, Michael along the wing and then another one-two with Dan.Cs, then crossed back to Dan who was one on one with the keeper but only managed to strike the keeper with his shot. If it had gone in it would have been the goal of the season.

Half time came and went and still we could not break down TD, with Perrywood still having the major part of the play. After spending a while on the bench Josh came back onto the pitch and went up front, a minute later he latched onto a pass from Michael just outside the TD area, turned and struck it across the goal into the bottom left corner. At last we had the breakthrough and got the points we deserved. Overall a great game by all the boys, need to practise a bit more shooting and also need to get our heads up and go for the pass.

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  10 v 0 Worth Park Rangers

Sep 28th 2008 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jack.D, Jay, Max, Benjamin, Matt, Joe, Gus

Goal Scorers: Max (3), Jack.D (2), Matt, Benjamin, Joe, James, OG

Still waiting for the match report to come in, but just wanted to say that the performance of the boys today was a million times better than that of last week. For sure Worth Park did not hassle as much as Maidenbower which gave us a bit more time on the ball, but the passing was good, the boys were calling, movement was good and we were looking for the pass instead of individual glory.

Worth Park are still a team trying to get up and running this year and I am sure they will improve over the season. To be honest the score could possibly have been more but the keeper managed some good saves.

I will check the goal scorers when the report comes in but I think that is correct.

PERRYWOOD GOLDEN EAGLES  2 v 0  Ifield Edwards

Sep 21st 2008 - League

Squad: Jake, Josh, Owen, James, Daniel DK, Dan CS, Leo, George, Sam, Michael

Goal Scorers: Dan CS, Michael

It was always going to be a tough start for the Golden Eagles with the first game being against Ifield. The reds had finished the previous season in the red league very strong so are going to be real title contenders. We had the full team of boys to pick from today and used them well to ensure that fresh legs were always on the pitch.

Michael got the scoring underway after pouncing on the rebound from a corner, Dan.CS popped in number two in the second half and we had a few more chances to add to this but failed to convert. The boys at the back stood firm and mainly made life for Jake quiet in goal, although he did pull off a good save late on.

We just need to talk a bit more, get our head up and make the pass, but overall a very good start to the season - top of the league !

PERRYWOOD EAGLES  0 v 0 Maidenbower Royal Blues

Sep 21st 2008 - League

Squad: Jack, Adam, Jack.D, Jay, Max, Benjamin, Matt, Joe,

Goal Scorers:

After the excitement of the pre-season build up with a couple of well fought and won friendlies against Southdown and Maidenbower Navy over the last couple of weeks, it was time to kick off the Crawley league games against Maidenbower Royals. With anticipation and excitement at fever pitch and the crowd now carefully controlled behind the metal fencing, the match kicked off and........well, despite the pre-season confidence in the friendlies, the Eagles seemed to suffer from a few first match nerves. With Maidenbower exploiting the opportunities and remaining dangerous on the break, it was a closely balanced game. After 30 minutes of rather nervous football, a few missed chances at both ends and Jack F working hard to keep a clean sheet the match finally ended up all square at nil-nil.

I think Malcolm has summerised the game well, we seemed to be trying too hard in this game and not getting back to playing the simple game. I am not sure how much the maidenbower team has changed since last year, when we played them at the end of last season we came out 11-0 victors. For next week we are looking for a bit more composure, lets get the ball down and start to play it like we know we can.
